Something that's freaking me out

This is long; so if you get bored easily, ta-ta,no hard feelings. If you like weird stories, stay a while.
So, my youngest daughter and her family live in the middle of 92 acres, in the middle of nowhere near a small city, I guess. The house they live in is an old stone one, at least 100 years old. The beamed ceilings in the living room are the rough beams they built the place with and the walls are around 3-foot thick old stone. So, really old. A has two kids, 3 year old Z and 2 year old V. Several months ago, Z started talking about her boyfriend, Jackson. Her and Jackson have ten kids and everyone is 3. When you ask her what Jackson looks like, she says he's brown. (Out of the mouths of babes, I guess.) So my daughter has been keeping an eye on the kids' tv shows and dvds, trying to find out where Z got the name Jackson from, as we don't know anyone by that name. No dice. So we shrugged it off. Lately, little V has been asking where Jackson is and when he's coming over. (I don't know if kids share imaginary friends or not.) So then A was a little weirded out, and wondered if there was an actual ghost in her house. They have plans to move back home. They are an hour and a half away. So A decided to try something and she told Z that the next time she saw Jackson, she should ask him if he is going to move to the new house or if he is going to stay there. The next day, Z informed her that Jackson said he will be staying there.
On to the next phase of weird;
My father passed away suddenly in January of a massive heart attack. He was in the hospital for surgery, which he had come through with flying colors, but then he had the heart attack. They found him on the floor outside his hospital room in the middle of the night, and spent the next hour and a half bringing him out of being coded before they could even move him to CICU, where he passed away the next morning. So, last week, A said Z woke up in the morning and told her that she had a dream. A asked what it was and Z said "It was on the ground but I don't know what it was." She repeated this twice, and then told A that it was Big Poppop (my dad) in her dream and that he was talking to her. (Which is weird, considering they found him dead on the floor) When A asked Z what he told her, Z got confused and couldn't remember. (I assume Z is too young to realize dreams get like that, all misty and stuff.) A didn't mention it to me, as she thought I might get upset. Last night, A had a dream of her own. She said our family, aunts, uncles and all, were sitting at tables in a restaurant my sister used to own. She said my Dad walked in and we knew he was a ghost because we knew he wasn't alive. She said he walked over to the table where she was sitting, stood across from her and was talking directly to her. She woke up and couldn't remember what he said either, although she said it didn't feel like anything bad, but she wants to know what he is trying to tell us. Everyone is going to think I am crazy, but I told her to tell Z to ask Jackson if he knows what Big Poppop wants.
Am I nuts?

Smallville: Descent Spoilers!!

Okay, this is the Smallville I have wanted to watch since the beginning; absolutely no Lana Lang; Lois and Jimmy working together; the villain finally putting the pieces together and finally committing a crime there is no turning back from; finally, a Lex who can tell Clark it's his fault Lex has turned to the dark side because he deserted him, true or not; a villain who thinks he can really save mankind and will do anything he can; the typical, oh-man-I-found-out-something-you want-to-know followed by a mistimed murder; the final face-off at the grave, pure Superman and Lex Luthor. I loved the little sarcastic smile on Lex's face when Clark looked away; loved the way Lex just walked away from the grave and past Clark without a word having been exchanged.
Yes, this is the Smallville we were promised and have seen little of.
Yay to whoever wrote this episode, have to find out.

Farpoint 2

Okay, one thing I have to say that I really loved was the fact that everytime I walked into the bar, the five flat screen tvs were showing the scifi channel. No stupid sports.
James Callis is a sweetheart and didn't rush anyone through the autograph lines, either day. Marina Sirtis still looks great. (I hate her. hee) Callis had his hair short, and when someone asked him about it, he said well, we haven't started watching season 4 yet. Of course he wouldn't elaborate and he told us nothing except that they would be starting to film the last 9 episodes in March. We had a good time, had some beers and ate too much food. I saw a lot of familiar faces from Shore Leave, the yearly July con, which was nice. Some guy was there in a Vader outfit he must have spent a fortune on. Also, I took some video with my digital camera, and you know what? When you take pics sideways to get a longer pic, instead of a wider one, you can come home and rotate the pics after you upload them to your computer. You can't do that with video. sigh. Oh, well, lesson learned.

In the extremely unlikely event that anyone is looking for me online, I am leaving tomorrow, Friday, at 1230 to head to Maryland for the Farpoint convention, where I will be treated to the personal appearance of James Callis, aka Gaius Baltar from the new Battlestar Galactica. Needless to say, I am thrilled to be going, not only for the chance to see him in person and get an autograph, but also because the year has been a bad one already and I need the break. I dearly love hotels and the Hunt Valley Marriott is a really nice one. I will post about the con when I get back.
Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Spoilers for Smallville Blue

What the frak was that supposed to be? A waste of an entire episode for some made-up El family crisis that will mean nothing in the future of the show. But....Julian?! For real? So, Lex was crazy for a season or two for nothing? Lionel didn't bother to keep tabs on him like he did with Lucas? Unbelievable. And why doesn't Grant get to have the initials LL like almost everyone else? Clark talking about all Lana went through to protect his mother. What, she got body slammed one time. Nothing unusual for this show. What a freakin' roller coaster this is.

Weekly Smallville update SPOILERS

OMG
Tonight my show was back. I think Goughlar must have fired everyone and hired new writers. No Clexana angst, no stupid Freak of the Week, just plain, actual Superman mythos and Luthor drama. The best stuff around. Kara is getting better, Lana was tolerable, Clark gave me the chills when he revealed at the end that he had the crystal with Lara's DNA. Lara was very good and I smiled when the government man mentioned that Sommerholt had invented the memory machine. I was wondering how much IV Kryptonite it would take to kill Kara and was hoping Lex would have shown up at the lab to rescue Clark but at least it was the other Luthor.
Lionel flew to DC. I wonder if he stopped to visit Martha.

Spoilers for Action

Wow. An episode of Sv that I actually enjoyed. Can't wait to see how Lana will defend herself when Clark finds out about all her misdeeds. Unless, of course, the evilLana is another clone.
Loved the Clex Warrior Angel stuff and I am wondering if they meant that bit of conversation about Devilicus killing a woman to foreshadow something, because if they don't, they suck really big time. Too bad the crazy guy wouldn't tell Lex anything, but I guess he knew Lex was Clark's Devilicus.
Loved the cape thing.
And Lionel! Yay!! Although I did have to cringe when he was pulling that trap off his hand.

Best mother-in-law in the world

My mother-in-law, Bertha, has passed away. She was treated in the Emergency Room and Intensive Care for 24 hours this weekend, but she passed away peacefully early Sunday morning. Massive system failure, they said. She was 88 years young. We thought she might have stayed around a lot longer, as her mother lived to be 101, but that was not to be. When the girls at work asked me about her, I told them the simplest way to put it was that she has been my mother-in-law for 26 years and I have not one syllable of complaint about her. She was generous and always had something nice to say about the kids, never complaining if it was a little noisy. She never, ever interfered and thanked me more than once for keeping her oldest son so happy. The funeral is today, and we will all be glad when it's over, but she will be sorely missed. I have to wonder now if we will ever see my husband's brother, wife and son, who live in Arkansas, anymore, since they won't have to come up and visit. My father-in-law passed away in 1990, and the old homestead will now be sold.
It's awful that time has to march on, and we lose people. It has been very busy here since Sunday afternoon, and the house has been crowded with my own family, who have rallied around for us. My family is so much bigger, and that makes Bertha's extended family that much bigger, loving and supportive.
Love and hugs to you, Bertha, you will be missed.

Smallville (spoilers for Fierce)

So today, after months, I decided to post.
I spent the entire episode of Fierce tonight thinking to myself over and over; Smallville, crap with pretty scenery.
(I did enjoy watermelon-covered Clark and the look on his face).
But mostly, crap with pretty scenery.
Then, in the last 20 seconds, the one reason I stay around.
One glaring moment of non-pussy-whipped Lex and a hint of Clex.
He tells Kara that he would protect her, like others he would have protected if they had been honest with him, meaning Clark, of course. Then, he asks her if she is a "savior or a warning." Loved that!!!
If I thought Gough and Millar had even a clue, I would swear they do it on purpose; crap all over us and then give us three seconds of redemption.

Pageants

So another pageant weekend is down the tubes now. As you all may or may not know, my granddaughter, Zoe, was Miss Pennsylvania Sunburst for 2006. So she was entered again this year She went to a pageant last month for practice and tied for first out of thirty little girls. Her little brother, Vinny, won Best Dressed there, so he was admitted to the State level pageant this weekend too.
Well.
Miss Zoe, being 2, was a lot more interested in trying to take the trophies from the stage than waving to the judges. We thought she would come away with nothing this weekend, but it turned out she won three trophies anyway. Yay Zoe. Vinny, on the other hand, came away with nine, count 'em, nine trophies and crowns, even though he didn't take the State title. On the other hand, he was one of the only two little boys who were handed cards to contact the modeling agency. I am trying to remember what he won, because it is a huge blur. Best Smile, Best Playwear, Best Dressed, Best Swimwear, Best Environmental Photo; Best Costume; Best Party Wear; the participation trophy and second runner up to the State title.
Zoe was awarded Best Playwear and Best Partywear, as well as her participation trophy. He did better than she did this year, although he didn't get that big 6-foot trophy for the State Title like she did. Anyway, it was extremely hectic and noisy, and I think if Zoe could have understood that she needed to talk to the judges instead of of trying to help herself and running off the stage, she might have done a bit better than those 3 and 4-year-olds in her category.
At any rate, here is a pic of them with some of the trophies.

http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k110/Annie17851/pageant072009.jpg

They don't have too many more years to be able to do this, as my daughter will not use make-up, fake tans and hair extensions, like some of the other mothers do once the kids hit six years old. We didn't see any of that here at the State level with the little kids, although when they took Zoe to Nationals in Atlanta last summer, they were appalled at what parents will do to their children. Zoe and Vinny at least believe that they are there to have fun, play at the hotel and go to restaurants, like a little vacation and they get trophies to take home. No one leaves a Sunburst pageant empty-handed, every child gets a trophy no matter what, which is a good thing.
Anyway, that's over for now. :)

Smallville

Yes, I am actually posting today. I replied to a post about Smallville on another lj, and thought I might as well put it here too.
When they first started advertising the premiere of Smallville, I was delighted, because that's my kind of television, and there is a real scarcity of it. Then when I read, somewhere, that Lex and Clark would really start out as the greatest of friends destined to become the greatest of enemies, I was absolutely giddy. I envisioned several years of close friendship, culminated at the end of the series with some kind of huge misunderstanding or betrayal that would be tear-worthy, tear my heart out and make me love the writers and remember the ending of the series forever. Alas, this was not to be, and the fact that they have made Lana such an integral part of the Rift has trivialized it for me tremendously. I am very disappointed, and not even sure I will be buying season 5 on dvd yet. I won't stop watching the show until it's over, because I really want to see what they do with it. I don't mind the introduction of other DC characters, except Aquaman, who was awful, but I do resent the Lana shoehorning and the fact that, as you mention, they won't even throw a bone to the huge Clex fanbase they know is out here. Al/Miles are on my craplist, and I don't think I will ever let myself get interested in any more of their projects. To be honest, even with the promise of the great friendship, the slash aspect hadn't occurred to me until I came across some fic online and then totally got it. I will stay till the end, although I very much doubt that the last show of this series will have the emotional impact of, say, the last episodes of St. Elsewhere, Quantum Leap or the supposed-to-be-end-of-Buffy season five finale.
Sorry to ramble, but I am very frustrated.

Mal's gun

So, I like to collect prop replicas, which some of you, or one of you, may already know. At Shore Leave in July, I bought the resin model of Mal's gun from Firefly, which I had to paint myself. After several trials and errors, I managed to get it into some kind of shape.

http://www.therpf.com/index.php?s=8b1cd74a4a66f69248be4be50b3697eb&showtopic=114761

I will probably take the advice of the forum member who mentioned the different paint for the grip, as I am really not happy with the way that looks, but I will probably leave the 'metal' part as it is.
So much for my first do-it-yourself prop.
I did make the thing Lex Luthor kept on his desk to hold the spaceship key back in season 2 of Smallville, but the hubby helped me with that one.

Skyler Elizabeth and Christmas in July

So yesterday, Skyler Elizabeth was born. I can't wait to see her, but it's a weird feeling for me. Skyler is my step great-granddaughter, so now that means, several days before my 53rd birthday, I might be getting old.
My oldest son, Steven, has a stepson, Jeramie, and it was him and his girlfriend who had the new baby. Everyone is doing fine, which is always a blessing, and I am sure we will be heading to their house in the not-too-distant future with presents and camera at hand.

On another note, my brother hosted his third annual Christmas in July party at his Tiki Bar and pool behind his house. Reports have attendance at 105 or so. A good time was had by all, and even Santa had a blast. Only thing, next year we have to save our pennies and hire the dj for six hours instead of four, because that went by much too quickly. Also, I made crab and corn chowder, a new recipe for me, and it was gone by the middle of the afternoon, so that recipe is a keeper.

In a hotel room with Jamie Bamber

Yes, it's true. For all of thirty seconds I was in a hotel room with Jamie Bamber. Even though it was only for my photo op at Shore Leave yesterday, I'm counting it.
They had changed the schedule around a lot because Jamie was filming until late Friday night and ended up coming in on Saturday, so everything for him was moved later. 6 pm was photo shoots, 7 pm was his Q&A and 8 pm was the autograph line.
There were a lot of people there, and as the evening wore on, they decided to have only the day passes for Saturday and the disabled up to the line for the night. That meant everyone else who had weekend passes could get two things, and their photo shoot pics, signed today.
He's a doll. The photo shoot went like this:
Me: (all but audibly squeeing as I walked to his side for my pic)"You are so cute!!"
JB: So are you.
Putting arms around each other.
Me: Thank you!
Smiling and trying not to blink from the flash.
Breaking apart and Jamie turns to me and holds out his hand.
JB: What's your name?
Me: Annie.
JB: Thanks. (and shakes my hand and let me tell you he has the greatest blue eyes.)

That was the extent of the interaction for the night, as I was not a day passer.
Sunday at 11 am was the next autograph session with him. I was about the 200th person in line, had my three things and he was still as nice as ever. When I got to the table I thanked him for coming to see us, even though he had a late shooting schedule Friday, and he put his pen down, clapped and thanked me.
The Q&As were interesting. He mentioned a few generic spoilery things about season 3. I will tell what he said if anyone wants to mail and ask me. People asked him a lot of questions. His fave ep is Captain's Hand and his fave scene is one he just did with EO.
You just can't believe how adorable he is in person.
Two people from SG were there, Amanda Tapping and Carmen whoever he is, but I never got their autographs because their lines kept interfering with JB stuff. I did see Connor Trineer, Trip on Enterprise, and he is a doll too. He was sick with a bad cold but he was there all weekend, doing his Q&As and he sat at a table and signed autographs for anyone who wanted to buy one of his pics, even without being in the official line. He was very accessible and that was nice. There were also other lesser people there and a slew of scifi authors.
All in all, I had a good time. The hotel is nice, the con people were great and I will probably buy another ticket for next year even before they announce who will be there so I can get the lowest number possible.
There was also a bunch of fan panels and a CGI workshop where the audience participated in a special effect that will be used in BSG, season 3, ep 10 or 11.
I guess if I forgot anything important, I'll update again. :)

Still can't mail Miranda, I think her server dislikes me. I might as well tell everyone:

Jamie Bamber has been announced as a guest at the Shore Leave Convention, July 7 - 9, Baltimore Maryland. A lot cheaper than Moonlight Rising where I am going to see Adam Baldwin on June 3.
I think I am so there.

New Grandbaby!

I guess I need to break down and update today:
My new grandson, Vincent, was born today at 545 am. He weighed in at 6 pounds and 7 ounces, 18 inches long. Barring the one-inch longer stat, he is exactly the same weight as his sister born last year. He was also born on his due date, all of which, I am sure, Aimee planned down to the last detail.
Aside from some kind of blood pressure problem for Aimee during delivery, everything went smoothly and Mother and Baby are doing fine.

Yay!!

You have to wear a flannel shirt all day.”
